II. SIMT students going places

In the course of the first few months SIMT's Class of 2008 has been out and about to visit an outstanding event as well as a number of companies in the Stuttgart region and further afield. In January, a group of students visited IBM Germany's headquarters in Stuttgart. With this visit, the students specifically focused on project management and learned how this important topic is dealt with at IBM both in Germany and abroad.

In February, SIMT visited the leading-edge kitchen manufacturer bulthaup in Aich, Bavaria. SIMT's students had the chance to have an in-depth look into the production and also learned a lot about the international marketing and sales strategy of the family-owned company.

For a selected group of SIMT students March held yet another highlight. They were invited for a dialogue session with Henry Kissinger, former secretary of state of the U.S. and security adviser, at Robert Bosch Stiftung Stuttgart. Dr. Kissinger answered questions relating to both current political developments as well as questions relating to his own political life and times. Students were impressed by this outstanding opportunity to meet living history.

In May, SIMT students had been invited to one of SIMT's closest business partners in the Stuttgart area. As a systems partner for the international automotive industry as well as a specialist for automotive air conditioning and engine cooling systems, the Behr Group is one of the world?s leading manufacturers and suppliers of original equipment for passenger and commercial vehicles. Highlights of the visit to the Feuerbach headquarters were an interesting discussion with Oliver Getto, SIMT MBA graduate of the Class of 2001 and currently Manager Product- and Process Development, a visit to the climate wind tunnel as well as a discussion about entry possibilities at Behr. A number of SIMT alumni are working with Behr today.

Also this month, SIMT students will be visiting both LGI Logistics Group International as well as Kärcher. LGI, founded in 1995 as a Joint Venture of Hewlett-Packard GmbH and Willi Betz Group, covers all aspects of the logistics portfolio today. Among other things, the students will visit LGI's high rack warehouse. Kärcher is the leading manufacturer of cleaning systems and equipment, known for its high-pressure cleaners. Kärcher involves their expertise in restorative cleaning projects of cultural monuments such as the Berlin Brandenburger Gate, Germany, and Mount Rushmore, U.S.

III. Placements Class of 2007

End of April did not only mark the graduation of SIMT's current batch of graduates of the Class of 2007. For quite a number of fresh graduates this date also marked a quick return back to the workplace. Apart from a number of part-timers who changed jobs right after receiving their degree certificate, this is an important time for all of those graduates who studied full-time and are currently making a fresh start into the working world.

Amongst SIMT's full-time group, there are a number of international graduates who chose to opt in favour of an internship position as part of their MBA degree at SIMT. International graduates are currently working in internships in Agilent, Behr, Bosch, DaimlerChrysler, GE Capital, Hewlett-Packard, Mahle and TRW Automotive. Others have already secured full-time positions and have started working with new employers.

All in all, this year's batch scored a very good placement rate. Students at SIMT go through a number of extracurricular activities and trainings to sharpen their profile for the German job market. Together with their excellent MBA degree this has proved to be a successful and sustainable strategy for SIMT's graduates.
